The ability to mix and match various sections of your layout will allow you to have the best of both worlds.  You can operate your trains in a prototypical mode in different areas of your layout and still have part of your layout hold the interest of other observers who won't believe all the action that is taking place.

In the example below the OVAL is symbolic of any shape or designed AUTOMATIC section of your layout.

As stated in other sections of the product descriptions it is important not only to be able to turn off automatic controls when you wish to have multiple ENGINEERS running CABS but to be able to mix and match controlled sections with normal sections.

Because your DCC commands will still function in an automatic section for speed, lights etc., except when stopped  as required because of traffic, you can use the Merge and Spur Bitswitches to ENTER and EXIT an automatic section of your layout even though that section is under automatic control.

The Merge BitSwitch will allow ENTRY into a "Controlled Area" when ever there is a break in traffic.  The Engineer  will simply TRY to enter on the merging line and when the train stops, he should leave the desired forward speed set.  The Merge BitSwitch will allow the unit  to enter the controlled section of the layout when the traffic clears.

When a desired train approaches example Spur BitSwitch simply throwing the points to the EXIT spur  will allow the train to leave the controlled section without any disruption to other trains in the controlled area.
