Brake Generators

GO BACK

Depending on the engine decoders used automatic "Braking" can be initiated via 3 different methods.

Track power for the brake section can be switched to analog DC.
Most NMRA conformance decoders and LGB MTS.

DC Generator Toggle Version            $25.00
                      Manual Toggle for ON/OFF
DC Generator w/ Decoder Connect  $30.00
                      Throttle Control for ON/OFF

A universal "Set Speed Zero" packet can be broadcast to the brake section.
Most NMRA conformance decoders and LGB MTS.

Set Speed Zero Packet Generator      $85.00
                      Throttle Control for ON/OFF

The DCC signal in the brake section can be altered to an Asymmetric Signal
(Lenz Gold/Silver Decoders)

 Asymmetric                                           $25.00
                       Manual Toggle for ON/OFF

This switch provides the master power feed for multiple BitSwitches contained in the layout. If you wish to have separate sections automated and others operated by Engineers One switch is required for each independent section.

Basic Brake Generator BitSwitch $25 (for analog DC and asymmetric DCC signal)  has two positions:

In the OFF position this section of the layout will operate as if no automatic controls exist. However Signals continue to operate and Braking Sequence Logic is maintained for easy resumption of automatic operation.

In the ON position trains in this section will be controlled and dispatched by the BitSwitches contained in this section.

The basic "Brake Generator BitSwitch" is a manual toggle switch.

In either position the trains can be sent new commands for speed changes, lights, sound etc.  If the particular train addressed is currently under automatic braking the command will not be activated until the train is released. Only one DC Brake Generator is required for multiple BitSwitches

"Set Speed Zero Packet Generator" Price $85

The Set Speed Zero Packet Generator can be used in place of the "Brake Generator BitSwitch".  The output is connected to a dedicated power booster that will supply ALL C & D inputs on the BitSwitches.  Because the track power output from this Speed Zero Booster is subject to minimal loads (applying power to sections of track where trains are stopped) it can be daisy chained to a large number of BitSwitches so only one booster dedicated to the Set Speed Zero generator is required for most layouts.

The Set Speed Zero Generator is addressable as an accessory using your throttle or command station and can be turned on/off as desired.  The address is programmable from 1-9999.

The "SET SPEED ZERO" VERSIONS ARE REQUIRED FOR LAYOUTS OPERATING DECODERS FROM SOUNDTRAX, AND ANY MFGS THAT DO NOT OFFER "BRAKE ON ANALOG DC" and also require ONE dedicated DCC power booster.

Another method is to use a DC transformer for Braking.  When using this method you need to set the transformer to supply a voltage equal +/- 2v to the DCC being supplied to the layout.  This configuration allows for no operation in the manual mode unless you install the DPDT Toggle switch as shown below so that you can switch the power to the "C" & "D" terminals of the BitSwitches to Analog DC for Automatic mode and DCC for Automatic OFF.
